What is DNS?

DNS stands for Domain Name System.

It translates human-readable domain names into IP addresses.

For example:

example.com → 93.184.216.34

Without DNS, users would have to remember IP addresses instead of domain names.

How it works

When a user requests a domain, the system performs DNS resolution to determine which IP address is associated with that domain.

The result can then be used to establish a connection with the destination server.
